What does ‘R’ stand for?
We're all in a rush, and we want to fix issues quickly. But often, by assuming too much, we might reach the wrong conclusion. The cause that we used root cause analysis tools to discover is actually incorrect. Once we have the (wrong) cause(s), we may rush off and take action to fix it. But if it's the wrong cause, it is wasted effort and you rushed - only to go slow. Like if your taxi doesn't show, you might decide never to use that company again because they are unreliable - when the real problem was that you gave them the wrong pick-up address.
The R step in the DIGR-ACT® solution is Root Cause. This is where you take a little time to think through what has gone wrong and what might have contributed to it. Was the right information provided? Were the tools adequate? After defining the issue, determining what is and is not, and going step-by-step, the next essential component is to use the information to develop the likely root cause(s). Rather than simply addressing the result, spending time to dig to develop the likely root cause can stop the cycle.
Are you finding yourself on the wrong road, reacting to problems by continually retraining, but noticing the problems still occur? Find out how to dig into using the right information to develop the likely root cause effectively and follow the right road with the DIGR-ACT® solution!
